Scale with
Government

Partnering for population scale

Societal thinking principles for population scale.

In societal thinking samaj (society), sarkar (government) and bazaar (companies and marketplaces) must come together to create exponential change to shift narratives around PwDs as active citizens, taxpayers, changemakers etc.  Over the years we have worked across different state (Karnataka & Goa) and central governments for several initiatives.

Karnataka

In 2013-14, the Karnataka government pioneered a placement cell for PwDs in the state, in collaboration with EnAble India.

We worked across 30 districts, along with Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETI) and local NGOs for self-employment. Over 110 general Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDP) were conducted, benefiting 3,457 PwDs across Karnataka. 62% of trained PwDs were settled in various trades like tailoring, managing petty shops, cattle rearing and more. Our learnings from this initiative resulted in the ecosystem model for self-employment, GarvSe centres.

National government

EnAble India’s employability framework has empowered PwDs to take charge of their careers, be their own problem solvers and productive employees.

To spread this impact across India, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) partnered with EnAble India with the support of Quest alliance and the Skill Council for Persons with Disability (SCPwD) to customise an employability training for PwDs.

100 trainers have been upskilled across the country, thereby impacting thousands of Pwds. Through this, PwDs learn to expect more from themselves, earn respect from their families by gaining independence, boost their chances of success by becoming solution-oriented and building disability-specific skills and so much more.

Ministry of Rural Development & National Academy of RUDSETI

There are 600+ RSETIs across India that regularly conduct Entrepreneur Development Programs (EDP) with suitable infrastructure, trained faculty, and disciplined execution.

To mainstream self-employment for PwDs across the country, EnAble India partnered with the National Academy of RUDSETI to train directors across these institutes.

The EDP curriculum was adapted for PwDs and the course is now a standard offering at RSETIs. These courses are also conducted by our GarvSe Centres at the RSETIs. This has led to scaling of impact and opened livelihood opportunities in rural India.

Since SCPwD’s inception in 2015, EnAble India has served on its governing board.  We support their objective to create a robust and vibrant ecosystem for quality education and skill development of PwDs in the country.

Goa

In 2023-24, a community driven State Center model for advancing disability livelihoods was piloted with the State Commissioner for persons with disabilities, Goa.

Goa

In 2023-24, we piloted a State Center model for advancing disability livelihoods. This was done with the Goa government in collaboration with the Office of the State Commissioner for persons with disabilities.

An integral part of the model was to sustain livelihoods year on year by building a foundation which is community driven. This was to co-create and solve together by aggregating resources, best practices, demand and supply and the marketplace.

The aim was to empower and restore agency for a PwD and provide access to abundant opportunities, services & solutions.

The model was based on:

  • EnAble India’s science of livelihoods developed from insights on the ground
  • Societal principles
  • Techniques of behavioural science
  • DEPOSIT™ (Disability, Ecosystem, People without disability, Opportunities, Solutions, Institutions & institutionalisations, Tools) framework for ecosystem building

Impact

In just one year, 63 organizations came together to build and provide their expertise across various stages of the employment lifecycle of PwDs. Individuals across 7 disability types were impacted.

Aggregated demand for hiring PwDs was created across 11 sectors. 3,300+ company and government employees were sensitized as part of the ecosystem. Equal Opportunity Policies was created and implemented across 75 government departments.
